Four fantasy series I want to start soon 🐉✨

fantasy-series-to-read

Hello There

At the beginning of the year, one of my main readings goals was to finish and catch up on book series I had started, and so far, I’ve been doing great! As of right now, there are only two series I need to finish/catch up on, and I’m waiting for the next instalment to be released in ten different series (the joke is on me lol). 😂

Because of that, it’s time for me to start some new series, and I’m so excited about that! I’m planning on doing two posts on new series I want to start, this first one focusing on fantasy series, while the next one will focus on sci-fi series!

ICYMI, I shared a blog post about five fantasy series I finished this year and loved back in July, so if you’re looking for recommendations, you can check it out! ✨

So without further ado, here are a few fantasy series I’m planning to start as soon as possible:

broken-earth

The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin

I’ve been meaning to get to N.K. Jemisin’s works for the longest time, as she’s such a highly praised author, and I’m planning to start with The Fifth Season (but all of her books sound amazing!), first book in The Broken Earth trilogy. All I know about this book is that it’s a dystopian fantasy, where a woman is looking for her son in a deadly and dying land, and apparently it’s better getting into it without knowing too much, so that’s what I’ll do. So many readers say The Broken Earth trilogy is one of the best fantasy series out there and each book in the trilogy was awarded a Hugo for Best Novel, which makes me even more excited to read them!

tawny-man

The Tawny Man trilogy by Robin Hobb

Robin Hobb is one of my all-time favourite authors, so it’s no surprise I’m excited to start another of her series. So far, I’ve read both the Farseer trilogy and the Liveship Traders trilogy by her, so the next series on my list is The Tawny Man trilogy. This series is set fifteen years after the Farseer trilogy, and follows Fitz, an assassin, The Fool and Nighteyes the wolf. I adored the Farseer trilogy, which was medieval-inspired, and very political (meaning very much what I love), so I can’t wait to get started on this one!

founders-trilogy

The Founders Trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennett

Another fantasy series I’ve been seeing nothing but amazing things about! The first book in this trilogy, Foundryside, follows Sancia, a thief who has been sent to retrieve an object in a warehouse, only to discover it is an artifact of unimaginable power that could revolutionise magical technology in her world. Because of that, someone in the Merchant Houses wants Sancia dead, and no one has the power to stop them, so she’ll have to find unlikely allies and undergo some sort of transformation to survive. I also know there is a f/f romance, which makes me even more excited to read it!

green-bone-saga

The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee

Last, but certainly not least, I’m planning to start The Green Bone Saga as soon as possible; many SFF reviewers I trust have been raving about this, and it sounds amazing! This series follows the Kaul family, one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. There, rare magical jade is produced, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities. Nowadays, the Kaul family is involved in commerce and upkeep of districts under their protection, until open violence erupts in the streets, and a clan war starts. This series is said to be “intergenerational blood feuds, vicious politics, magic, and kungfu”, and I’m so there for it!

Have you read any of these book series? Which book series do you want to start soon?

lots of love

    1. Thank you! I read The Fifth Season last week and LOVED IT. It took me by surprise (though I was hoping to love it), and I can’t wait to read the sequels, I totally recommend it now! I’m hoping to read Jade City this month, it sounds soooo good. I hope you’ll love them both! 🥰
